Put
Decaying
monuments
Imperial paens
Creation blighted by
man's creation
Observed by
a hopeful
eye
A remote beach; natural, teeming with perpetual life

A wooden post; grafted erect, decomposing

Marooned remnants of
metal
rubber
concrete
awaiting interpretation by future heirs

Consecrated vestiges of a sacred site?
The humble bones of a once-vital shelter?
Devices of communication? Recreation? Torture?

Or, perhaps such conjecture is futile
foolish to suggest one object’s purpose
is inherently more righteous than another’s

And, whether the disfiguring evidence
of our conquest and consumption
is temporary or permanent

Beauty breaks through
